Biography

Don has represented southwest Edmonton since 2007.

He leads city council’s environment portfolio, chairs the City of Learners initiative, and works on council’s youth and Next Gen outreach projects. He chairs Council’s standing Utility Committee and is the 2011-2012 chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Don also serves on the Edmonton Public Library Board and chairs the Capital Region Board Regional Transit Committee.

Before the 2007 election, Don was a government-relations professional working for undergraduate students at the University of Alberta. Before that, he spent three years as business manager of the Gateway, the student newspaper at the U of A, where he focused on developing the non-profit operation like a business. Prior to that, he spent two years in Toronto working for Canadian University Press. Don also served as vice-president of the Malmo Plains community league.

He graduated from the U of A in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) in Political Science.

Don and his wife Sarah Chan, a music teacher, live just north of the adjusted ward boundary in Belgravia. They have a two-year-old son.
